Sony Xperia Z Review In Depth
I have been waiting for the Sony Xperia Z given all the rumors, but now that its out, i will try to give an honest review on it. I have to admit i am not a Sony phone fan (before you guys start to judge me and all :P), so "what i want to see" might not be as what the sony phone fan wants to see in the Xperia Z. Among of the awaited feature is the amazing high quality display (looks like Sony is trying to give a loud message to the other manufacturers saying that they will put a new benchmark in terms of what the minimum phone display they should have for a smartphone).
Should the other manufacturers step up due to the Xperia Z feature? After reviewing the new Xperia Z, in my opinion, big names like Samsung really should take notice of Sony, i am not saying that the Sony Xperia Z will take over the android smartphone market, but i think Sony mobile did a really good job with producing Sony Xperia Z since its split with Ericsson. t probably marks the new exciting beginning of Sony's smartphone revolution. Sony Xperia Z technical specification The technical specs Operating System : Android 4.1.2 Processor : Snapdragon S4 Krait 1.5 GHz quad-core Graphics: Adreno 320 Camera: 13 megapixels Memory : 2 GB RAM,16 GB storage Dimensions : 139 x 71 x 7.9mm Weight : 146g Display size : Five-inch Display/screen resolution: 1080 x 1920 pixels Screen pixel density: 441ppi Expansion slot : micro SD Battery: 2330mAh non-removable Design and built At a glance, it's design are more towards minimalist, with its angular shape, you can be fool into thinking that it is bigger in size, but rest assured that it still slip into your pocket comfortably. It is also built for protection against the weather. Power and performance When it comes to power, the quad-core Krait processor, really makes the Sony Xperia Z stand out. The non-final firmware of the CPU , paired with a skin indeed made it feel very light. Features One particular feature that impresses me the most is the full hd 1080x1920 display. Basic features are present, NFC and HDMI-out capability are also available. Ecosystem and extras When you decide to purchase the Sony Xperia Z, and you're a fan of Sony, the availability of many Sony apps and services will give you a sense of relief, example, being able to use the device as a remote control for your other Sony kit. Hack-ability I am not sure of how hack-able the Xperia Z is, guess we have to wait for a little bit. Even though Sony offers support through its boot-loader unlocking tool, but from past experience, Sony handsets showed very "stiff" response towards hackers around the world . Rise of Sony Xperia Z Can this be the beginning of Sony smartphone revolution? Incredible specs to begin with.. When you brief through the Xperia Z specs, it seems that Sony really push hard on an attempt to lead the other Android smartphone by establishing new must have features. The five-inch display that almost defining it a phablet (phone plus tablet like Samsung Galaxy Note II), by making the casing small and fitting into its chassis which if made comparison not larger than the Samsung Galaxy S3. The display, as mentioned is full HD (1,808 x 1920 pixels) with a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch (as compared to average 320 ppi displyed by 720p). It runs on Android 4.1.2 with a promised update of 4.2 by Sony. The processor is a Snapdragon S4 (1.5GHz quad-core) which is reputable in speed and battery consumption, while the 2GB of RAM is another leap compared to present devices on the market. In addition, a 16GB of storage which can be augmented through the memory card slot. It can run on 4G networks, with download speeds of up to 100Mbps. Other connectivity includes Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, DLNA, and MHL (for mirroring the display on an HD TV). The camera on the back has a 13-megapixel sensor, below it a LED flash and full HD video recording. The front camera is 2.2 megapixels but also HD capable. The Xperia Z is also described as 'life proof'. Being a IP57 certified, it stand well againts dust and water (1 metre of water for half an hour). Hardware and design The pattern of designs for Xperia Z follows the "genetics" of the previous Xperia and what i fond most is that it is very minimal. Most in front features are hidden (like the camera), the others are a speaker (tiny) and a microphone. The Android virtual buttons had made it possible for the casing to be reduced.Going to the sides, ports such as micro SD card and headphones, are safely sealed and easy to access. The power button located halfway up the body at the right hand side, as well as a volume rocker. The Sony Xperia Z does not have a dedicated camera button. The back of the phone is flat and features the camera lens, LED flash and Xperia logo. Sony Xperia Z has squared off corners in all directions but it maintains a good grip. The full HD display If i am not mistaken Sony Xperia Z is the first smartphone to be a full hd 1080p display. The pixel density of 441ppi puts Apple's famed Retina display benchmark of 300ppi way behind. They say that once you hit 300ppi the pixels become imperceptible to the eye, but the Xperia Z's screen says otherwise.Try to put any 720p display beside it and you will understand what i meant. The full HD displays trend maybe followed by the rest of Sony's competitors. Currently the Xperia Z has the Bravia engine to ensure good colours and contras. Sony's software skin Sony's Android software skin has been considered one of the best, especially in bringing out the user identity. Most nortable improvement is its ability to create folders in the app drawer (other skin only allows to create folder on the home screen), which is very useful in managing your apps. If you're a fan of Sony and you Playstation and Sony TV, you can utilise Sony's service by using added software like Walkman app and the Music Unlimited service (subscription-based). Movies service, and a pictures app to replace the stock Android gallery are also available. Gamers, PlayStation Mobile is also included. Security software is also bundled , and for Sony Car owners, in-car control of music and navigation features is there for you to utilize. |

Camera Test
While the other Sony smartphone has dedicated camera button, it might feel "awkward" for some Sony fan that the Xperia Z doesn't have one, this might be one down point. Since e firmware is not final, there might be room for improvements in terms of the camera quality.
But the with the current firmware, i must say, i am satisfied with it. Very responsive with no shutter lag and able to make good shots. Noise and noise reduction can be seen, and the LED flash seems to be weak (as to any LED flash on other brand)
Lifeproof
"Withstand dust, water and anything else you can throw at it, well not literally that is"
The cool waterproof feature might be a common feature for other Sony smartphone. Sony achieved the waterproof by sealing it's port around the sides (while still maintaining easy access).
Power test
Early performance tests
Since the firmware is not final, it is not fair to judge but there are no issues with the speed and responsiveness of the system, and after running some benchmark tests on the evice, it portrait to us a very high expectations of the phone's speed.
Lag can't be detected when playing games and running full HD video. Maybe the only concern is the battery life, with larger screen size, higher resolution and 4G connectivity,
optimizations seems inevitable to achieve good and long battery stamina.Sony has created a power management function which can enable us to disable certain
functions when the screen is off or the battery is low.
